Nokia Commits Corporate Suicide

I didn’t think that Nokia would be stupid enough to adopt Windows Phone 7. It looks like I was wrong. As covered here, here, here, here,  and here.

In my opinion the losers are:

  1. Microsoft – WP7 isn’t ready for prime time.
  2. Nokia – Adopting WP7 is like adopting buggy whips…

And the winners are:

  1. Google – lots of ex-Nokia developers to hire.
  2. HP – Buying Palm for WebOS looks positively prescient.
  3. Apple – Iphone, Ipad, Itouch, I???
  4. LG – Promised 50 WP7 phones, LG now knows who it’s friends aren’t.
  5. Rim – going to pick up a lot of ex-Symbian business

  1. Normally I would agree. But in this case I think that MS is building up a nuclear arsenal of patents to beat mobile device makers into using winX mobile in some scary (not so far future) distopia.

If any one has learned anything from SCO vs IBM it is that the future corporate tech wars will be fought with patents.

Very scary. Good bye innovation. Hello new dark age.

    1. Innovation has gotten Microsoft no where, except with one product, Kinect. Everything else is an imitation, or an imitation of an imitation.

What I thought was really funny is in the HBGary mess – the computer security guru was using Windows!
