Chris Castle is a Music Industry Lawyer. I classify Chris as an honest lawyer, he has his opinions, and he’s quite willing to admit that his opinions are biased by his employment.
Chris is sometimes a little too critical though, and then I fire back. I’ve just left a comment on his blog. He usually publishes my comments. This one, being a bit more inflammatory than most, he may not, so here it is. My comment is in response to his article Digital Music News Over the Top Again.
OK Chris, then how do you explain Cameron Tilbury? You’ve heard of Cameron haven’t you, the guy who got a puff piece published in Cash Box Canada titled ONE SOUL THRUST GOES PIRATE-PLATINUM WITH THEIR DEBUT CD, 1ST.
Something didn’t sound right about the whole thing, so I did some research of my own, which I published in an article titled One Soul Thrust – Who Is Lying To Them, because my conclusion was that someone was lying to them. I could not find a single torrent of their music anywhere, and I’m a pretty good researcher.
This got Cameron really upset. He personally attacked me in the Balanced Copyright for Canada Facebook Group. I decided that I should call in someone else who was well known for their research skills, so I contacted Torrent Freak. They looked into the situation, and produced an article titled CRIA Watches Massive Music Piracy Crisis Devastate Unknown Band.
To further prove Torrent Freak’s point, I checked several Torrent sites besides the one that they mentioned and found others that also generated fake results. So I generated some really wild fake results. Fake results for records that don’t, and have never existed. How about Cameron Tilbury Latin Love Songs Album Downloaded 4720 Times!
Now at this point you have to start asking yourself some simple questions. Very simple questions. When the DMCA was enacted, where did the data come from? Did it possibly come from torrent sites which fake data like this? Is it possible that the DMCA and Bill C-32 in Canada were pushed for because of faked data?
Inquiring minds what to know.
